Prepared Date: 6/1/2003 Summary: Grocery department manager is engaged in selling specific, related, or general lines of merchandise by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate workers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Answer and direct incoming phone calls. Assigns employees to specific duties. Supervises employees engaged in sales work, and performs work of said subordinates, as needed. Ensures compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices. Ensures a clean and well-maintained work area. Engages in working backroom stock, making sure it is rotated and put away in its correct place. Takes inventory or examines merchandise to identify items to be reordered or replenished. Receives, opens, and unpacks cartons or crates of merchandise, checking invoice against items received. Stamps, attaches, or changes price tags on merchandise, referring to price list. Sets up advertising signs and displays merchandise on shelves, counters, or tables to attract customers and promote sales. Cleans display cases, shelves, and aisles. Answers customer's complaints or inquiries. Locks and secures store. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises 8-15 employees in the Grocery Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Computer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Print Shop Pro, Microsoft PhotoDraw Design software; S-4 Main Inventory software; Symbol handheld order processing systems and Microsoft Word /Microsoft Works Word Processing software.
